Pohangina Notes

(from our own correspondent.! Mr Baker, Commissioner of Lands, at* tended at the Dramatic Hall, Ashurst, on Friday, November 18, to preside over the drawing of sections in the Salisbury and Delaware Farm Homestead Associations. He stated that all members were to come under the Land Act of 1891. As the sur veymg is not yet finished, rent will not be reckoned till from July Ist, 1893. Occupation is only compulsory four years from Ist July, 1893, No transfer will be allowed till after the sectipn has been occupied tor 12 months, and improvements effected as required by the regulations. Rental to be 4 per cent on the capital value of the land. Sections are priced accord* ing to position and quality ; and range in the Salisbury from 15s to 255, and in the Delaware from 16s to 22s b'd. The secretary read out a minute of the general meeting of December 11, respecting the method of ballot : Families to be allowed to draw together, names only to be placed on tickets ; tickets to be deposited in an opaque jar, and drawn only by a disin* terested party; first name out to take No. 1 section, and so on in regular order. The Commissioner approved of the plan proposed, but suggested that the number of names on one ticket be limited to three. This was put as a proposition and carried by show of hands. Six sections were drawn for ia the name of the Crown. The applicants had not signed the necessary' declarations, and were, therefore, dis« qualified— except m the case ot Messrs Bosher Bros., who have to satisfy the Commissioner that if a 200-acre section is allotted them they will then be holding no more than 320 acres. If they prove this, the sections will be given them. The remaining four sections will be put up to auction as soon as possible. The following is the order of drawing and the number of the section allotted to each in the Salisbury Block, all 200»acre sections :— l, Henry Clapcott ; 2, C. B. Lucas ; 3, W. H. Lucas ; 4, F, E. The Commissioner said that although sections were not fully sur» veyed, members could fell bush this season at their own risk. He was hay* ing lithograph plans prepared, and would send one to each member, and the surveyor now on the ground could explain them, if necessary. The Detaware Block, of 1000 acres, on the west of Pohaagina river, was next drawn for (in the same monner) : — Sections No, 1, Thomas Simpson ; 2, F. R. Simpson ; 3, C. Simpson ; 4, L Simpson ; 5, E. Simpson ; 6, E. C Simpson. This block is* situate between Mr Thomas Nelson's run and the Salisbury. The Delaware Block on the east of Pohangma, containing 1630 acres, followed, and was drawn for in the same manner: — Sections 1, A. H Whib ley ; 2, M, Selby ; 3, C. Selby ; 4, R. J. Whibley ; 5, F. W. Whibley ; 6, j. P. Whibley ; 7. H. Whibley ; 8, J. Hewi* son. In accordance with clause 12 of the Farm Homestead Regulations, the Commißsiouer took the minuto books and balance sheet of the Association for ex* aminatiou. The Pohangina Farm Homestead Committee were present at the request of the Commissioner. He wished to state the report of the surveyor as to a part cf this block, that, in his opinion, it was too rough to cut into 200 acres.
