Sad Suicide at Napier
A WARNING TO GAMBLEES. (PBB PBESS ASSOCIATION). Napier, November 10. At the inquest held to-day on the body of William Ernest Bradford Daltou. Charles Goffio, foreman tailor, in the employ of the deceased, deposed to find* ing the body and sending for the police and doctor. The latter found upon his arrival that the deceased had been dead from 12 to 20 hours. The police took from deceased's breast a loz perfume bottle, containing nearly half an ouu.ce of Scheele's solution of prussic acid. "The post mortem revealed sufficient signs of the poison to account for- fully another half ounce. He left letters behind him attributing his suicide to failure in gambling speculations, arid'^libpecl^Qiat his death would be a warning to young men never to gamble. The event has caused quite a sensation.: here," the /deceased was one of the se'veral j y6ungm'en who are believed to have been in the habit of gambling at a house here which has long been unsuccessfully watched by the police. It was not discovered how or where the deceased obtained the poison., None of the chemists in the town had solcL-ptpssic acid for over a month, and none of them had sold to the deceased 1 at anytime any poison. The jury returned a. verdict of suicide while temporarily insane. Deceased was 28 years of age, and a member of the well-known family • of , tailors of Auckland/Wellington, ania Napier.
