Manchester Road Board
The regular monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday last, — Piesent — Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), i Booth, Pearce, Purkiss, and Reeves. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was dealt with : — From A. O'Brien, re deposit of cheque on tender for the Peilding Bridge. From A. Buckler, soliciting charitable aid on behalf of Mrs Gibson. From Land and Survey Office, re closed roads in the Manchester block. From J. Slipper, requesting permission to erect hitching posts in front of his store at Bunnythorpe. From A. Guy, requesting particulars re rates. FromH. Crabb, asking that pegs be put in to define his section. From R, Caldwell, requesting information re grant for Kawakawa, and forwarding tracing. From 0. Huddleston, re gorse hedges on Stanway road. From G. Wilks, re water lying on Kiinbolton road. From Survey Department, re Mr McCrea's objection to a road through .his land, forwarding copy of letter sent by Mr Esam, solicitor, Marton, on the sub^ ject to the Minister of Lands. From the Manawatu Road Board, re the road from Oroua river to Bunnythorpe. on the south side of railway line. From the Treasury, owning receipt of £942 14s lid for interest due on loan. From Thomas Shortall, calling the Board's attention to the number of stray cattle in the.Colyton neighbourhood. Mr Remnant waited upon the Board, with a request that the Penelope road may be widened for a distance of about 64 chains, and the Board nromised to consider the matter. Proposed by Mr Eeeve, seconded by Mr Purkiss, that Mr Murphy be placed on the rate roll in lieu of M. Larsen. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Booth, that it is the intention of this Board to apply for powers to borrow the sum of £2500 to construct a bridge over the Oroua hver at Aorangi in accordance with the " Loans to Local Bodies Act," and that a special meeting be held on Saturday the 10th of December to con« firm this special order. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Reeve, that Mr Slipper be given pec-, mission to erect a hitching post, subject to the Engineer's approval.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Booth, that Mr Tremewaa be granted permission to erect bitching posts in front of his store at Bunnythorpe. — Carried Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Booth, that the Engineer report on Mr Schmidt's application for culvert opposite Bunnythorpe Hall at next meeting of the Board. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, that the matter of Mrs Gibson, be left to Mr Reeve to deal with, and if necessary to grant charitable aid. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Pearce, that the Engineer inspect the crossing on the Makino creek near J^r NewaU'B property re making ford, and inspect the ford on Mr A. Bell's property also. — Carried. The Chairman informed the Board that he had seen Mr Burrell, and the 'latter thought the Board had not treated him well in the matter in dispute, and Mr Burrell considered his .claim for compensation was a very moderate one; however he agreed to take no further steps until after the Board's meeting that day. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That Mr Burrell be paid £25 for land taken for Forlong's road, on his completing transfer of same, and that this offer is made without prejudice. — Carried. Resolved, That Mr Purkiss be treasurer for this meeting. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Booth, That B. Poole's tender at £75 for the formation of Mr McDonald's road, and S. Gallagher's tender for Winchester street at £5 15s 6d be accepted.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Booth, That the Board having considered Mr Belfit's application for an advance on his contract, cannot see its way to alter the contract. — Carried. Resolved, That permission be granted to Messrs Scheidt and Nissen to erect averandah across the footpath opposite their building in Bunnythorpe, and that the footpath be constructed as requested.. — Carried. ! Resolved, That the Board is not now in a position to do anything more to Penelope road, £100 having already been spent upon it. ' Resolved, That it is the intention of this Board to make bye-laws regulating the traffic over roads and bridges and to prevent the obstruction of roads, and that a meeting be held to confirm the same. Resolved, in the matter of cattle straying on the roads complained of by Mr Shorthall, that the Clerk be instructed towrite to owners warning them to keep cattle off the roads. The usual monthly accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned. .
