Bunnythorpe Notes

The footpaths which are now being formed in our main street, will be a great •improvement to the place, especially during the wet season, as pedestrians will then be able to walk about without wading ankle deep in mud. Mr Jefferies new house on the Ashurst road is quite an ornament to the district. On the ground floor is a large kitchen 19 hy 16 feet with a capital cooking range made by Wilcock and Hoskings of Palmerston. There are also a dining, sitting, drawing and two bedrooms on this floor, all lofty and large apartments. The drawing room cornices are picked out in harmonious colours to match the paper, which is a handsome rose pattern gilded. Upstairs there are eight large bedrooms, most of them being nicely papered with washing papers in good wearing patterns. The oath room has hot and cold water laid on from the kitchen. A splendid cistern 12 feet deep, enclosed in brickwork 40 feet in circumference, supplies the large tank at the top of the house, and the water can be pumped up as required. The doors are of picked and grained rimu, supplied by the Wanganui Sash and Door Factory, Totara is the principal wood used in the construction' of the building, which. has been put together by Messrs Kibblewhite and Taylor of Palmerston m a thoroughly substantial and satisfactory manner., Messrs Christensen and Church, of Feilding, executed the whole of the' inside varnishing, painting and papering, in a manner which reflects great credit on their skill, the outside painting has been done by Mr Ellis, of Palmerston, in a satisfactory way. The work has been carried out according to the plan of the architect Mr Larcomb, of Palmerston, and under his supervision.
