The result of the Melbourne Cup, to be run at Elemington to-day, will be posted outside our printing office this evening. A correspondent sends us his final selection : — The Admiral, 1 ; Correze, 2 ; Malyolio, or Portsea 3. (per press association.) Melbourne, October 29. At the V.R.C. Spring Meeting the weather was fine, and the attendance large. The three principal events resulted a3 follows : — The Melbourne Stakes. — Autonomy, 1 ; Bungebah, f ; The Admiral, f. Time, 2min 9£sec. Victoria Derby, 1£ miles. — Camoola, 1 ; Mcli, 3 ; Jonathan, 3. Betting 7 to 4on the winner. Candour took up the leading position as the field swept round the turn into the straight, Mcli at the same time coming into prominence ; but two furlongs from home Camoola came to the front without any apparent effort, and appeared to be winning easily until 100 yds from the winning post, when Mcli and Jonathan made a gallant effort to get up, but though the former got within three parts ot a length of the leader, Huxley's vigorous riding landed the favourite past the post by that distance, • the rank outsider Jonathan creating great surprise by running Mcli to neck. Time, 2m in 42sec. The Maribyrnong Plate. — The Sailor, 1 ; Zeph, 2 ; The Dauphin, 3. Time, Imin 4sec. October 31. Tirailleur covered two miles yesterday morning in 4min 45sec, taking even time oyer the last four furlongs. A totalisator shop was raided by the police on Saturday night, when 50 persons and £1200 were seized. A large number number of visitors have arrived to assist at the Cup meeting, and there is a likelihood of a very large attendance. The weather is warm, and there is eyery appearance of a summer's day to-morrow. The betting on the principal event is very brisk. The Albert Police are extremely vigilant against cash betting in shops. Malvolio has hardened to 100 to 15 for the Cup. The other quotations are — 100 to 12 Clonard and Camoola, 100 to 10 The Admiral, 100 to 8 Portsea, 100 to 6 Eurus, Malolo, and Correze, 100 to 4 Titan and Swordbearer. Sternchaser has been scratched for the Cup. With the exception tbat Malvolio has advanced to 5 to 1 for the Cup, there has been no material alteration in the quotations to-night. Dunedin, Octaber 30. The following are the nominations for the Dunedin Cup, 600 soys ; two mdes and a distance : — Scot Free, Splinfeldt, Dilemma, Cruchfield, St Hipp, Diadem, Vogengany, Senator, The Dreamer, Don Pedro, Occident, Lustre, Captive, Thame, North Atlantic, Clanranald, Awarua Rose, Marion, Crown Jewel, Prime Warden, Wyvern, Johnny Faa, Wayland, Tempest, Flinders.
