(PEE PHESS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, This Day. At an early hour this morning information was given to the police that an old man named George Matthews, aged 78, had been found dead lying on the floor of the stoke hole of a malt house, where deceased was employed. Serious wounds were found on the back of his head, and brain matter was protruding. A doctor has given it as his opinion that the wounds must have been produced by foul play. Nahkr, October 24 Close to the approach to the Waipawa Eailway Bridge a rail weighing 3J cwt was deliberately placed across the rail/, way line. The train cut it in two, but returned to Waipawa, when it was found the engine had received no material injury.
