I FROM OTJB OWN COKBEBPONDENT. j A meeting of the committee of the Ash* urst-Pohangina Racing Club was held on Saturday night last, at the Ashurst Hotel, when there were present : Messrs Cotter (in the chair), Ingram, C. A. W. Hunt, F. Retemeyer, D. J. Couchie, R. J. AVhibley, G. Hunt, H. J. Stevens, J. Sims, and J. Spiers-Freeman (secretary). The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence was read from Messrs Pepperell, Cohen and Stock, KiJpatrick, C. C. Miles, H. J. Steyens, S. T. Hunt, Commissioner Crown Lands, Advocate and Mercury. Mr C. Hunt proposed, That Mr Pepperell's claim of £2 be passed for payment. — Carried. Mr C. Hunt proposed, That the programme be not advertised in the Rangitikei Advocate or the Mercury ; and that the secretary gets 100 post cards with programme printed thereon. — Carried. After some discussion as to the country clubs being represented at the Metropolitan Conference, Mr J. Cotter was appointed by the committee to act as delegate at the Wellington Conference, to sit in November, for the Ashurst-Pohangina Club. The following gentlemen were proposed as members of the Club : — Messrs Duncan, Ogilvie, Gallichan, Carbon, J. McDowell, and Jacob Hewitt. The following were balloted for and duly elected: — Messrs R. E. Reid, E. Potts, and E. Akers. Mr Hunt stated that Mr Wycherley had promised 10s 6d towards the numbered saddle cloths, and that the difference would be given by himself. Mr Cotter proposed, That Mr Hunt's offer, and also that of Mr Wycherley, be accepted with thanks. The meeting, after the usual compliment to the chair, then terminated. The first practice of the Ashurst Cricket Club took place on Saturday afternoon, when, considering the boisterous weather, a fairly good number took part in it. We have some new blood in our club this year, and hope to have a good season. I hear that Mr Porthouse, late ofFeilding, has joined the band here, and is likely to be an acquisition.
