The fifth series commences on the 24th November, the list for which closes on the 22nd. The first series next year opens on the 24th January, the hstnot being limited to any quantity. Ine second series commences on the sth Apru, and is limited to 450,000 bales. At the series jasfc cW, 298,000 bales Of wool were sold. As compared with the July series, the prices for f°* J™" n ° 8 were unchanged; medium do., id to *d lower; crossbreds, greasy, par; scoured lambs, |d lower. The prospects of good prices at the next series are fair. Hop picking has finished, and the yield has fallen far short of the early estimate. It is expected that the total yield will be about 415,000 cwt. October 13. At the last series of wool sales, the number of bales sold for export was 146,000, while 33,000 were held over. Canterbury frozen mutton, 4£d per lb ; Wellington do, 3§d; New Zealand beef, forequarters, 3sd ; hindquarters, 4d. New Zealand hemp is firm at the recent advance. The Miller, a newspaper devoted to the interests of millers, estimates that Great Britain will require to import 18 million quarters of breadstuff's, and France 4? million quarters. The New Zealand Loan »»a Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable message from their London office, dated 12 instant :-' The wool sales closed firmly this day.
