Colyton School Examination
» The Colyton School was examined by Mr Spencer on the 26th and 27th September. The following are the names-of the children who passed in their respective Standards : — Standard I. — John Flower, Alice Flower, Violet Pleasants, Annie Simpson, Winnifred Eng, Sarah AUerby. Standard II. — Alice Eng, Martha Lankshear, Elizabeth Allerby, Maggie Stewart, Edith Fisher, Etheline Eng, Glencora Francis. Standard lll.— Harry Garlick, Herbert Smith, Charlotte Adsett, May Mexted, Mary Mexted. Standard IV. — Nellie Garlick, Maria Simpson. Standard V.— William Adsett, Maggie Shortall. Standard Vl.— Robert Simpson, William Simpson. The per centage of roll No. presented in standards was 66. Per centage of passes on roll number, 43 ; per centage of failures 25. A girl in Standard VI, (Olive Pleasants), was unable to attend the second day, on account of illness. The Inspector states " that without doubt she would have secured a creditable pass " if she had been present. The school has been closed for 5 weeks in addition to the regular holidays. The attendance generally has been very bad on account of the prevalence of diphtheria and hooping cough in the district.
