■ "■— ♦— V After parade on Thursday night a meet ing of the Shooting Committee will be held to arrange matters connected with firing for medals and trophy. The foUowmsJactingJappointmenta have been made: Sergt. Evan's, to be 'Oblor Sergeant; Corporals Milson, Bellve, Petherick, and Say well to be Sergeants, in this order as to be seniority. Nominations tor corporals will be received on Thursday night. A young man named William Prior, eighteen years of age, and a. member of the Adelaide Volunteer force, while acting as a marker, was shot dead when sitting in the marker's house. Major Purnell and Private Kruse (exchampions from Wanganui), Lieutenant Ross (ex- champion from Napier)j Volun-. teerA. Ballinger (Wellington Guards)/ Ganner Bait (D. Baitery) and Gh Kuchen (Petone Rifle Club) left Wellington for Lydney by the steamer Hauroto last Thursday afternoon to take part in the New South Wales Rifle Association meeting, which opens about the 17th inst. All the aboye are members of the Petone Rifle Club, aud will compete in the Teams Match on behalf of that; club. The Monowai left Auckland the same evening for Sydney, and among the passenger! were Pnvate McCarthy, of the Victoria Eifles, Sergeants Doughty and Webster and Bombardier Brown, of the A. Battery, the Auckland representatives for the New South Wales Rifle meeting. The recruits which haye recently joined the Manchester Rifles are all considerably over the required standard besides being young, healthy, and able bodied. ,• Class firing will commence at the butts to-morrow afternoon, Ammunition may be obtained from the Secretary Sergt.
