The resignation of A. D. Willis, E sq. as captain of the Albert Bifles, Wanganui, is gazetted. The Manchester Bifles paraded in the Assembly Booms for inspection on Thursday night. Lieuts. Kirton and Bray were in command, and Dr Sorley was in attendance. Atter inspection the corps was put through company movements by the officers, and afterwards Sergt. Eyans, Corpls. Bellye, Petherick, and Say well drilled the men in manual, firing, and sword-bayonet exercises. At. the conclusion of the parade, prize medals were presented to vol. Stevens (Dr Charl ton's medal) and Gorpl. Fetherick (Vol. James Scott's) by Lieut. Kirton, who, in a few brief terms, complimented the winners on the decorations which they had won. The third medal (presented by Vol. Scott) won by Vol.. Feck, was not presented, owing to the unavoidable absence of the winner. Lieut. Kirton congratulated the corps on the good attendance, and remarked upon the rapid improvement they were making in their company drill now they had a place so splendidly adapted for drill purposes, as the Assembly Booms. Three recruits gave in their names for election, and a fourth name was sent in yesterday. Vol. Scott, jeweller, has received an order from Mr McGee to make a gold medal, to be fired for by the local corps. There is also a silver medal to be competed.for in the class-firing. , The; dates for Dr Sorley's ambulance lectures will be announced shortly. Ifasterdayf Mr Wollerman intimated to the officer commanding, that it is his intention to present a trophy to be fired for by ; of the Manchester Rifles. ■■■ -'if ■
