Palmerston North Hospital Board

The usual monthly meeting of the above was held at Palmerston last Thursday,' when there were present Messrs i , Y. Lethbndgd (chairman)i Haybittle, Nye, Park, Kansome, and Taylor. From Charitable Aid Board, Wanganui, forwarding, statement of receipts and expenditure for, year ending 31st March, 1892. The statement of liabilities showed that the Palmerston District was liable for the following amounts :-Halcombe, £11 8s Bs ; 'jEuldmff. JEI7 13s lid; Palmeraton, £120 19a 3d; Foxton, £1 3a 8d ; Kiwitea, £1 M». Ud. ; sundry expenses, £32 ss: total, £185 5s 7d. A letter, accompanying the statement, pointed out that the liability of the old Board would be considerably increased if the Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board succeeded in debiting it with the expenses incurred in connection with the support of the Williams' family. After the v severance' the Wanganui Board asserted that the family would have to be supported by the Palmerston Board, as they came from their district. Mr Haybittle said that the man Williams had neveir worked in Paltnerston, and his maintenance should be charged to the district whence he originally came. A discussion took place on the statement forwarded by. the Wanganui Board, and the opiuion was. expressed that the Palmerston Board had no right to pay half of the liabilities of the two Boards seeing that the Wanganui Board's district possessed a larger rateable yalue. The Chairman was of opinion that the Board should contribute to the liquidation of the liabilities of the old Board in proportion to their income. Mr Haybittle moved that the Wanganui Board be offered the proportion of this Board's liability of £185 5s 7d against their liability of £253 3s 4 d to liquidate the amount of £327 Is 3d, which is the; balance due.— Seconded by the Chairman and carried. From Mr K. C. Bruce. M.H.K., stating that he would be happy to assist Mr Wilson in getting the Hospital Reserves Bill passed : t hrought the House. From Begistrar-General, forwarding subsidy of £22 4s 9d. The subjoined particulars stated- that the subsidy was at 24s in the £ on £234 Is— £2Bo 17s 2d. less amount paid to Board in error (being subsidy of £ for £ on £2>B 12s sd) received by Board from Palmerston If . Borough Council. From . Palmerston Borough Council. forwarding cheque for £71 14s 2d, amount of levy tor. Hospital and Charitable aid purposes for, current year. The writer staled that as yet no action had been taken with regard to the liabilities for charitable aid purposes due to March 31st, 1893. The Borough Council were liable for a considerable overdraft on this account, and there were other pressing claims. If the Board would decide what it would do in the matter the Council would be iv a position to to take what action might be necessary. The following accounts were passed far payment:— Charitable aid, Palmer* Bton. £7 15s Id; Do., refund, £5 10s; Mrs Bickelben, £7 10s j Wanganui Hospital Board* £33 15s 64 ; E. Larcomb £50; G. Carter, £200; Trustees Wellington Hospital. £4 18s ; Mrs Thomas, £4 10s; W. L.' Luxford. 8s ; Ross & Sand ford, 13s 6d. ' Jas Miller, £26 75. 7 d. Mr Taylor proposed, and Mr Park seconded. That the Clerk be instructed to bake enquiries as to the cost of a suitbale building for the housing of charitable aid patients, and report at next meeting. — Carried.
