Pohangina Road Board

The usual meeting of this Board wa9 held to-day. Present — Messrs Lucas (Chairman), Arbon, Dickin, Eichards and Burton. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received : — From EL J. Wylde, informing the Board that he has commenced practice as a surveyor in Palmerston North. Prom Kirton and Curtis, soliciting a share of the Board's advertising. From W. W. Corpe, applying for permission to fell road line in front of sections 17 and 18, block 14, ho 2 ward; also requesting the Board to have the Ferry road cutting cleared owing to its being blocked by slips &c. From the Secretary to the Treasury, stating that the Board could make application for a loan of £6000 at once. From A, A. Brown, asking permission to fall about 15 or 20 chains of road line, on his section in the Coal Creek block. From W. Vicary, for permission to fall road line on his property in the Oroua Coal Creek block. Also from G. H. Hunt, to fall bush on the main road fronting section 37 block 14 all on the usual terms. From Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, informing the Board that the interests of James Higham in section 5 block 15 Apiti, arid C. J. Jensen in sec. 5 block 3 Pohangina, were cancelled on the 29th utt. Also from the same, to the effect that schedules of thirds are now in course of preparation. From E. Caldwell, Survey Office, Wellington, to the effect that he could supply the Board with a plau of the District, on a scale of 80 chains to an inch for £6 10s, or one of 40 chains to the inch for £8 10s. From the Advocate, enclosing advertising account for L 4 15s 6d. Also from the Feilding Star, forwarding adyerUsing account for L 3 17s 6d. The Chairman informed the Board, that owing to heayy slips on the Valley road, he had instructed Mr Bray to inspect the damage done and give estimates of the cost for repairing the same. Proposed by Mr Burton, seconded by Mr Dickin, that Mr Lucas' action in ap pointing Mr Bray to officiate for the Board as Engineer, until such time as the Board appoint a regular Engineer, be confirmed — Carried. Proposed by Mr Dickin, seconded by Mr Lucas, that the Secretary be instructed to make the necessary arrangements for a loan of Lo,oOO for the con* struction of roads in No. 2 ward. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Dickin, that this Board adopt the " Loans to Local Bodies Act " by special order. — Carried. (Left Sitting.)
