(PEK PEKSS ASSOCIATION.) Prrth, September 28. Considerable sensation was caused in town to-day when it was learnt that Sir Tliooms Coekburn Campbell, President of the Legislative Council, hud committed suicide within the Council Buildings, by taking chloral. He left a letter wishing the Clerk of the Council good«bjre and previously made his will, but so far no cause is assigned for the ra^h act. Sydney, September 28. The men are returning to work at the Proprietary mine in small batches. The Sydney morning Herald, in an article on the Legislative Council dispute, thinks it more likely that the Marquis of Kipon's decision will be a death-blow to nominated Chambers than to nominated Governors. This Day. It is arranged to take a division on the want of confidence motion to-night. Several doubtful members have announced they will support the Government who expect a majority of eight to ten. Melbourne. September 29. Replying to a question as to whether the Government would take proceedings in connection with the various financial institutions, the Premier said there was a well established rule that before the Attorney-General could take action a written statement as to a breach of the law should be submitted to him by someone who could take the responsibility of laying an information.
