The poll in connection with the proposal to raise a special loan of £165,000 in order to carry out the drainage proposals of the City Council was as follows : — For the loan, 2365 ; against it, 666 ; majority for loan, 1689. The total number of yotes on the roll was 5822. Nafieb, September 26. The Key J. Hobbs, Incumbent of St Matthew's English Church. Hastings, some time back appealed to the congregation to pay off the church debt, and appointed yesterday for a special offertory. The amount required was £1150. and the offertories amounted to £1230. There was one cheque for £500 and two for £100 in the collection. Woodville, This Dav. The case Pavenport v. Syms was further adjourned on the application of the defendant to Thursday owing to the magistrate being unable to attend Burnett and Carlistle were the presiding justices. A heavy slip occurred last night in the Gorge, and the Napier- Wellington express was blocked. The slips come down in front and behind the train, and the train sent from Palmerston to take the passengers from their unpleasant situation was also blocked with a slip in front and behind, about 1 mile past Ashurst and three miles from the other train. The train got out about eleven this morning.
