High Court of Foresters

The annual High Court of the Ancient Order of Foresters was opened on August Ist at Ipswick, under the presidency of the High Chief Ranger, George Crickmore. Id his opening address, the High Chief Ranger was loudly and generally applau-'ed when he expressed the opinion that :it was the true policy of Friendly Societies to resist State interference in the matter ot old age pensions. On the following day the Credentials Committee reported that 524 delegates were present, including representatives Irom iSatal and Pierermaritzburg, South Africa, New Zealand, and Peru The investigation Committee reported with regret the non payment of sick pay to members of Engh.-h Courts-residing in New Zealand, and suggested that the following proposition for the alteration of the general law should be submitted by the incoming executive : — " That any rule now in fo»*ce which debars a member from receiving full benefits which he has contributed to as a member of the Order, in consequence of his removal Iron; the United Kingdom, be null and void ; but should sufficient evidence of increased liability be produced, a court may submit the same to 'he council, who shall allow an increased contribution to be charged to the member for liability so incurred." Delegates representing colonial courts in New Zealand and South Africa having spoken of the great hardships incurred by Foresters who emigrate to those colonies in not being able to at once receiye sick pay on falling ill, the meeting unanimously adopter! the proposition.
