Mr Jude's Concert

— ♦ Lovers of good music had a rare treat provided for them when Mr Jude gave his descriptive musical evening in the Assembly Rooms yesterday evening. Tbe first item on the programme was his song " The Skipper " which was capitally sung. He then treated his audience to musical effects on the chords, including a selection from Louis Gotchal, and Handel's " Dead March " which were splendidly rendered. Sam Lover's song, " What will you do Love " was next sung by Mr Jude with great taste and feeling. Then came the gem of the evening on the organ, The marching past of a Highland Regiment introducing imitations ol bagpipes, fifes, and drums, and the tramp of soldiers, in a very martial and realistic manner, ending with the Campbell's Are Coming. This was truly a marvellous performance and stamps Mr Jude as a master of the highest rank. Other items were "The Better Land, " a " Gayotte, " selections from the Opera of "II Trovatore, " on the organ, and Mr Jude's song " Home Boys Home" with chorus which was joined in by the audience, oonoluded the first part of the programme. The second part consisted principally of humorous musical sketches, many of them being rendered in a most laughable and mirth provoking manner. As a pianist Mr Jude has great delicacy of touch, combined with great power, and as an organist he is quite up to the high standard which repute has credited him with. The audience was a large and fashionable one, and quite capable of appreciating the fact that they were listening to a master's hand.
