Correspondence

[We are not responsible for the opinions of our cor respondents. ~[ MR DEVERELL IN REPLY TO MR WILSON. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAH. Sib, — I wish to reply to some of lit Wilson's remarks on my letter which recently appeared in your columns. I fail to see the justness of his remarks and they appear rather fulsome. He takes up the cudgels in favour of Freetrade, and shows better taste than Mr Goodbehere in handing down his views which are deserving of note, and which go to prove that he to some extent, is a mighty champion of the Freetrade cause, and also admits that in this colony the cause of Protection thd promoters of such is apt to put some of his opinions to blush when advocated by other methods as against his former principles, but this will always follow when one opens his mind to just convictions. I hope to have the pleasure of replying, with your permission, to some of his contentions. Mr Goodbehere is apt to catch at straws, and endeavour to make my meanings unintelligible, and it would seem only so far as his comprehension goes. One would think that Mr Goodbehere and Mr Wilson had taken sweet couuael together, and that Mr Goodbehere had called Mr Wilson to his aid, like Bold Robin Hood did Little John to fight his battles. Unlike Mr Goodbehere I will defend myself from all attack?, and hope my remarks may be taken in all good taste. I am, etc., John Deverell.
