Wirth's Circus

— ♦ < The attendance at the circus last night was very large, the tent being crowded. In fact the crush was so great that the second seats collapsed altogether. Nobody was hurt however, and the contretemps was met with the greatest good humour, and, without in any way hindering the performance, the seats were soon rigged up again. This show is a vast improvement on that which the Wirth Bros, gave here before, and if the firm go on as they have begun— giving better value each visit — their continued popularity must be assured. Of course the greatest public interest was centred in the performances of the Japenese troupe, and expectation was fully realised. The Arabs were perhaps a little dissappointing, but still what they did was amusing. The ground and lofty tumbling, trapeze, three .horizontal bars, and the gymnastics generally werewell done, andfrequently applauded. Every man earned praise and got it. The riding was of the usual character, good, but needs no special mention. The little girls on the wires were very clever and plucky, and received well deserved plaudits, j The only serious fault we could find that the show was too long. The people got too much for their money. The clown— who, by the way, is the best all-round Mr Merryman who has ever kicked up the, sawdust in Feildiu o at the conclusion of the performance reminded the audience that the Young Australians would play here * on Saturday and Monday. He said I they were good and well worth seeing, j Mr Wirth announced that the circus wonld be back again sometime in May.
