Feilding Wesleyan Church

♦ The Home Mission services in connection with the above were held on Sunday last. The Revs T. G. Hammond and C. H. Garland officiated respectively in the morning and evening which were well attended, especially in the evening when the church was crowded. At the meeting on Monday evening the above gentlemen delivered interesting and instructive addresses. The Rev W. J. Watkm_ gave several reminiscences of his experiences in New Zealand which were highly amusing. Dealing with the question of home mission, the reverend gentleman stated that out of collected last year £325 was appropriated for the poorer circuits and the balance went towards opening up new mission districts for the purpose of supplying ministers, etc. The Rev C. H. Garland quoted Green the historian, who stated that a catastrophe similar to the French Revolution would have happened in England, but for the various non-conformist bodies. Sectarianism has accomplished its purpose, and the question is how it can be done away with. To show that the same spirit is running through all denominations he found several hymns appeared in all church hymnals, as for instance " Lead Kindly Light," " Jesus Lover of my Sou]," Rock of Ages," etc. Catholicity is not inconsistent with denominationalism. The Church of England and Wesleyan ministers work together harmoniously on this West Coast with the best of good feeling. Musical selections were rendered by the choir. Mrs Marson and Miss Bellve taking the solo parts. The meeting was fairly well attended considering the counter attractions going on, and the collections on Sunday and Monday were satisfactory.
