* [UNITED PKESB ASSOCIATION. I Calcutta, August 27. Reinforcements sent by Russia en route to the Pamirs, have passed through Tashkend. August 29. • The Russian advance in the Pamirs is fomenting the excitement in Cabul and south of the Hindoo Koosh, and increases the necessity of an interview taking place between the Ameer of Afghanistan and
Lord Roberts. The Hazaras have inflicted another defeat on the Ameer's troops. It is reported that three distinct Russian detachments are now in Pamir. The Indian Government is insisting that the Ameer shall refrain from coercing the frontier tribes. London, August 29, The Russian Ambassador, in London, is in communication with Lord Roseberry regarding the Pamir dispute. The Chinese Ambassador in London is proceeding to St Petersburg to demand an explnnation of the Russian action. Hong Kong, August 27. The Chinese Minister in Berlin has been instructed to proceed to St. Petersburg to demand the recall of General Yanoff's expedition.
