Native Lands
We have been favored with the following return of native lands, which is now published for the first time :— Lands not through the Court acres used by natives 82,5/6 Lands not through the Court Ivine unproductive and not used by the natives 2,694,633 Lands which have passed through the Court and which have been leased to Europeans 2,442,469 Lands which have passed through the Court and which are used by the natives ... 739,934 Lands which have passed the Court and which are not used by the natives 4,898,874 Total - 10,858,486 It will thus be seen that out of a landed possession amounting to very nearly eleven millions of acres, the Maoris occupy less than one million acres, or 822,---510 acres. Nearly two millions and a half acres are rented by Europeans; while the enormous area of 7,593,507 is lying idle and unproductive— Napier Telegraph.
