Attempted Railway Outrage in the Waikato
Lpeb pbess association.] Auckland, August 22. A diabolical attempt was made to-day to wreck the train from Auckland near Hamilton. At O'Neill's road crossing two sleepers were so placed that if one did not derail it the other would be successful in doing so. It was scarcely the work of children, as the sleepers are too heavy. One was placed with the end down on the hollow of a cattle guard, with the other and projecting, so as to catch the wheels of the engine. Mr T. H. White, passing, saw the obstruction, and removed it before the passage of the train, and informed the police.
