Ashurst Notes
[fbom oub own cobbbspondent] The examination at the Ashurst. State School is fixed for August 31 and Sept. 1. This has been the worst term of attendance since the school has been established —sickness, wet weather, and muddy roads. Consequently scholars are rather behindhand with their lessons. Mr Buckler, headmaster, has been trying to remedy this, by giying night lessons, thus doing all in his power, (assisted by bis staff) to prepare his young charges to meet the Inspector. There are 207 on the school roll, average attend ™ cc { 4B -*' The two sections purchased by Messrs Freeman Jackson and Co. at the end of junction of the Feilding and Pohangina roads, are being stumped and cleared. Four acres are also being stumped and reared for a private residence on the opposite of the road-improving the appearance of that part of the town wonderfully.
