It is reported that another collision hns ; occurred between the Russian and I Afghan troops at Aktash, on the Upper ! Oxus, in which seven of the latter were killed. It originated in a dispute be- | tween the Russian and Afghan leaders. The former was shot. The Russians have arrived at Ghund, between the districts of Shignan and Roshan. London, August 17 It is stated that a yast qunntity of war material is being despatched from Sebastapol and Odessa to General Gunoff, and nil the troops in the Caucasus ore held ready to reinforce the detachments in Asia. The new cruiser Hawke, 7350 tons, capsized in the Chatham Dock while being launched. A ballot taken among those engaged in the cotton trade resulted in favor of the adoption of the eight hours' system. St. Petersburg, August 17. A mob destroyed the cholera hospital in Starobolsk. The epidemic has spread to Galacia, but is abating in Nisi, Novogorod, Baku, and Astrakan districts. The Russian doctors are discussing vaccination as a remedy for cholera. Tanoiers, August 17. The Augherite rebels have withdrawn from the warfare, and the Sultan is now master of the situation. Nbw York, August lo' The mine owners m Tennessee and Bridgeport accept Unionists instead of convict labour. The prisoas in the disturbed districts are terribly overcrowded. The police, citizens, and volunteers appear quite powerless to restore order. In Buffalo moving trains were boarded, roads blocked, and telegraph wires cut. Some passengers were robbed while emerging from a capsized train The nonunion hands are in a state of terror. The Lehigh railway station, with 270 carriages, has been burned. Two regiments have been sent to maintain order. August 17. Traffic is being resumed on Lehigh section under the protection of troops. The Switchmen on the New York Central line have also struck work, which with the Lehigh strike, ties up an enormous amount of traffic. The attempts made by the miners in Nashville to release the convicts were defeated. Many persons were wounded in the encounter. The troops are hastening to the scene to assist in preserving order. Hong Kong, August 16. The Chinese Government, becoming alarmed at the Russian advance in the Pamirs, have despatched troops thither.
