Ashurst-Pohangina Racing Club
♦ (FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT, j A committee meeting of the above club was held in the Ashurst Hotel on Saturday evening last. The following gentlemen were ballotted for and duly elected :— Messrs Davis, H. Gillies, T. Taylor, W, Sanson, D. Henderson, Peanes, J. Stevens, T. Sexton, J. Sim, and T. Nelson. Mr J. Spiers Freeman was elected as Secretary to the club to receive a commission of 5 per cent on gross receipts. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Alderson for his gratuitous work i» ploughing the saddling paddock and it was also resolved to present him with a member's ticket. It was unanimously agreed that the members ticket for the coming season include the admission of a lady. Some discussion took place as to the erection of a grand stand, and Messrs Cotter, Whibley, C. A. W. and S. T. Hunt were appointed a committee to enquire as to the cost and best means of getting same. The ground committee were empowered to pay the contractor for ploughing the course when the work is passed. The drawing up of the programme was then proceeded with when Mr C. Hunt proposed, that the stakes should be increased by £20 which was after some discussion agreed to. The date of the meeting was fixed for Wednesday, 28th December.
