Volunteer Items

♦ The Manchester Rifles will parade for drill this evening. The Napier News says Colonel Fox is a martinet. He told the Masterton Volun. teers that their non-commissioned officers were not what he had expected to see. Masterton is not the only place where the Colonel has said the same thing, and he will have to say it a lot more before he leaves New Zealand. It is reckoned £60,000 will be the cost of the new rifles to arm the Volunteers. An effort is being made to revive the Hawkes' Bay Rifle Association.
