The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1892." The Wellington Land Board
In our last issue we published a short article complaining of the want of system which appears to characterise the management of the Wellington Land Board. It appears that we were not singular because the Pahiatua Star has the following on the same subject :— Repeated complaints as to the delay in the transaction of business in the Wellington Land office seem to have little or no effect. The officers at head quarters excuse all their short comings by 'telling grumblers that the office is rushed with work. Men who paid their deposits on unsurveyed land nearly a year ago have not yet had their surveys started. Their money lis thus locked up, the. land they wish to settle on remains unimproved ; and their time is wasted. If the Commissioner has more work to attend to than he is able to overtake, why on earth is be not given extra clerical assistance? If he is not fit for the position why is he not removed ? No Crown grants or leases are issued until months after the money for them is paid ; no letters are answered with out uiost irritating delays. Nothiug is done when and how it should be The public have to submit tc this state of things with what grace they may. Again, we ask, who is the man that is able to make reform when it ia so badly required.
