The Manchester Rifles had an excellent muster on Thursday night when there were thirty-two officers and men of all ranks present. Lieuts. Kirton and Bray were in command and after inspection Sergt. Major Macmillan first instructed the men in firing and position drill, and afterwards in the manual exercises. The corps never looked better or drilled better since it was established. Every uniform was smart, the buttons bright, and the slings, belts, and pouches beautifully white. In fact the men presented a truly soldierly appearance. To Colonel Newall is this improvement owing, and the men deserve every credit for so willingly carrying out his wishes in this respect. At the conclusion of the parade it was announced that there would be drills every Thursday evening up to the inspection by Colonel Fox, on September 22nd. Also, that the surgeon of the corps, Dr Sorley, would instruct an Ambulance class on the same eyenings. The parade was then dismissed.
