In the debate on Mr Asquith's motion of want-of-confideuce in t&e Salisbury Government, Mr Justin McCarthy demanded a speedy statement of Mr Glad stone's proposals, also a pledge that the question of Home Rule would precede everything. He warned the Liberals that Ireland would refuse half the measures, and he urged the instant rehousing of evicted tenants in Ireland. He also urged the suspension of coorsion in Ireland, and the granting of umnesty to political prisoners, including those convicted on the charges of being concerned m the dynamite outrages. Mr John Redmond declares that unless Mr Gladstone fulfilled his pledges the Irish memhers would oust him. The Duke of Devonshire taunted the Liberals with continued silence in regard to Irish ami E_ypUm affairs in the House of Lotnmonli. Mr John Redmond demanded that, if autonomy was granted to Ireland, a veto of the Crown only be exercised on the advice of the Irish Executive, and that questions dealing with the lands, police, and judiciary should be left to the Irish Parliament. The Houne of Lords agreed to the Address-in- Reply withont amendment. The body of an unknown woman has been found in a ditch on the roadside in Ahhorpe'England. It was enclosed in paper and the head and one arm were missing. The troops of the Sultan are burning the villages of the rebels in the neighbourhood of Tangier. The French Government are liberally assisting Mizon to repeat his African expedition. The Rothschilds Imve donated L4OOO to the project, and city merchants have entrusted Me expedition to sell LBO.OOO worth of goods. The French Govt-rnment agree to arbitrate with the King of the Belgians over the question cf natives firing on the French in the Conjo District. The Bengal Chamber of Commerce is petitioning the Government to have the value of the rupee 6xed at eijjhteenpence. The Queen has sent a congratulatory message to Spain recognising the great discoveries by Columbus. The Chairman of the United States Oouuress Tariff Committee considers that the McKinley tariff to a large extent is to blame for the labour troubles in Pennsylvania.
