Kiwitea Road Board
An adjourned meetiDg of the above Board was held on Saturday afternoon. Present — Mr Taylor (chairman), Messrs Jones, Lucas, Burton, Reid, Morton and Williamson. The following correspondence was received : — From W. P. Mackio, enclosing account for felling bush on Mangamako road in the Sandon block. From W. S. Marshall, of Pembertou, claiming damages of £100 from the Board for breach of agreement in not carrying out the construction of Whare road in the Marshall township. From J. J. Bryce, re permission to fell bush on the Mangamako road line, fronting his section. • From J. W, Copithorne, re road giving access to his property at Pohangina. From E. McGregor, to the effect that he intends applying for a license to slaughter cattle at Maugamako. From J. L. Rogers, asking permission to fell bush on the Tapuae feidgo road fronting his section in the Apiti Block. From M. Bielski, re clearing track fronting his property at Pemberton. From A. O'Connor re Board's instructions to clear trees off the Mongoroa road facing his property. From J. Greaves and Thomas Barrett, offeriug to clear and fell road line at £2 per acre. From the Property Tax Department, enclosing voucher for £62 10s amount of subsidy due to the Board for 1891-92. From R. McKay, enclosing authority for Colonial Bank of New Zealand to receive amount due to him from the Board. From the Eaugitikei County Council, re holding a meeting of the Land Board quarterly. From Department of Lands authorising the Board to employ balance of £106 10s 4d on the extension of the Pukerimu road. From Department of Lands, stating that the Minister of Lands could not comply with the Board's request to have meetings held quarterly in three centiea of the Wellington Land district. From the following persona, requesting to be put on the rate roll, viz., C. and C. McKmnon in place of Daniel Jones ; J. Johnston in place of G. Fraser ; and B. A. Miller in place of Frank A. Miller. GENERAL. Referring to W, S. Marshall's claim of £100, the chairman stated that the Board in his opinion, had a good defence, and he should advise that the Board oppose any action which Mr Marshall may take in the matter. Mr Reid proposed and the Chairman seconded, That Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond be retained to defend the Board in the R.M. Court, in the case of W. S. Marshall versus the Board. Resolved, That Ewen McGregor be granted a slaughtering license in terms of his application. Resolved, That J. Greaves and Thomas Barrett be paid the sum of £2 per acre for felling the bush and clearing the track after burning on their line as requested. Resolved, That the applications of J. J. Bryce and J. L. Rogers to fell bush on the road line in their respective applications, be granted on the Board's usual terms. Resolved, That the applications of Messrs O. and C. McKinuon, J, Johnston and Frank A. Miller to be placed on the rate roll be granted. A lengthy discussion took place on the subject of withdrawing the Board's advertisnients from the Marton Mercury. No resolution was put to the meeting, but Mr Reid gave notice that he would bring forward a motion on the subject at a future date. The Board then resolved itself into a special meeting to pass the following motion:— That a special rate of three farthings in the £ under the Road Board Act be hereby made, the whole of the rateable property in the Kiwi tea road district, also a general rate of one farthing m the £ under the Counties Act be hereby made on the whole of the rateable value of the rateable property in the Kiwitea Road Board distnct, such rates to be payable in one sum on the 20th day of August, and that Wardens Reid and Burton be authorized to sign the rate book. The Board passed a number of accounts for payment and adjourned. The New Zealand Clothing Factory hare just received between 200 and 300 pattern» of tweed for special measurs consisting of Mosgiel, Kaiapoi, Oamaru. Timaru. Roslyn, Ashburton, and Petone tweeds and worsteds, all orders entrusted to the manager will receive careful and prompt attention. — Advt. S. J. The annual stock-taking sale at the Bon Marcho, Pnlmerston North, is now proceeding. The firm are determined to reduce their present stock at least £2000 prerious to the annual balance, and prices hare been made accordingly.
