♦ COLLISION WITH RUSSIAN SOLDIERS. (PKR PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Calcutta, August 4. The Ameer's troops who were despatched against the rebellious Huzaras, mutinied. The position in Afghanistan is critical. Two British mail carriers have been shot at Gomel. August 5. A serious affair is reported to have occurred at Soinatach in the Pamir's on the boundary line between Afghanistan and Chirna. Some Afgnau troops came into collision with thirty Russian soldiers belonging to one of the parties now in that district. The Afghans killed 5 of them and captured 16 whom thej held as prisoners, and refuse to release The Russians yow that in future they will neither give nor take quarter. It is reported that among the Hazara rebels who have been captured are 5 Russians, who have been sent m chains to Cabul. London. August 4. Professor Arminius Vambery, the Eastern authority, considers the rebellion a serious matter. He believes it to be due to Russian intrigue, and is confident that the Ameer must eventually appeal to England for assistance.
