The Manchester Bifles will parade on the 11th instant. In the German army it is the custom ■ to order the men to aim at the ere of the Instructor in Musketry, who is thus able to see whether their aim is correct. A recruit in the 130 t h, Regiment, stationed ' at Metz, had by some mistake received ball cartridge, and hating loaded his rifle, aimed in the usual way at the eye of the sergeant who was instructing him. The man pulled the trigger, and killed the instructor on the spot! This mode of instruction has been introduced in New Zealand with the difference that the men aim at each, other: Of course this is according to law because in Clause 12 of the Volunteer Regulations it is provided that M the senior officer in command on parade shah hare power to inflict a fine of 10s on any volunteer for pointing a rifle, loaded or unloaded, without order** at any person."
