Local Option

♦ A tneetiug convened by the temperance party of Feilding was held in Glasgow House last night to consider the Local Option Bill now before Parliament. The Rev Mr Murray presided. Mr W. G. Shearer moved the following resolution : — " That this meeting, representative of the residents of this district, emphatically endorses Mr Joyce's Bill on Local Option without any compensation being paid to publicans." The proposal was seconded by the Bey Mr Lyon, and strongly supported by Mr J. 0. Thompson who pointed out that there was nothing arbitrary or unjust in the Bill, as it simply proposed to place the power in the hands of the majority of any district. On being put to the meeting, the motion was carried unanimously. It was decided to send a copy of the aboye resolution to the Premier (Mr Ballance) to Mr Walker, (organising agent of the New Zealand Alliance), and to Mr Bruce (member for this district). A vote of thanks to the Chairman for presiding closed the proceedings.
