Bank of New Zealand's New Offices

♦ The officers of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand moved into theii new premises, in Fergusson street, yesterday. Our readers are already aware that the building formerly erected by the bank at Halcombe was removed here in order to be re-erected on a corner section in Fergusson and Manchester streets, opposite the Denbigh Hotel. This, after various delays from a variety of causes not necessary for us to mention, has now been completed. A considerable amount of entirely new work has been done, and improvements effected for the convenience of the public, as well as the officers of the bank. The following is a brief description of the interior, as supplied to our reporter by Mr W. D. Nicholas, who has completed the contract : — On entering the building, we notice the bank office, 22 by 14ft, with handsome counters made of varnished kauri pine, and a small room for stationery, 10 by sft attached; the strong room is concreted throughout, and is fitted with one of ' Milner's Safe Doors.' The manager's room, 14 by 10ft, is to the left of the entrance, and the two bedrooms, each 14 by 10ft, and the scullery and bath room are in the rear of the premises. The successful contractor for the building was Mr W. Howson, of Stratford, but during the past three weeks Mr Nicholas, of Feilding, has had the completion of the building in hand. Mr Fyfe, of Feilding, has executed the painting, papering, and yarnishing work with his usual skill. The whole of the work has been carried out under the supervision of Mr Sanderson, architect, New Plymouth. The building is now finished and opened for business to-day.
