WANGANUI V. FEILDING. The Wanganui Club sent a team down on Saturday to play Feilding. Tht weather was fine, and the game was witnessed by a good number of enthusiasts, including several ladies. Wanganui won the toss and played with the sun at their backs. R. Whisker kicked off for Feilding, and play commenced in midfield, from whence Roache transferred play to the visitors' 25 by a long kick to touch. Play was here for aome minutes when Roache got the ball asrain and the visitors were forced down by his kick. From the kick out play was taken down the neld where a Wanganui player obtained a mark. Mason had a shot at goal, but the distance was too great and Joe Robinson retired to touch.° Several marks were now obtained by either side and the visitors were goon on the defensive. R. Whisker and Terry were at the head of affairs when Udy smartly picked up the ball and after » short run threw himself across the visitors' goal line, near the corner flag, in the embrace of two or three of his opponents, thus scoring a try. Joe Robinson took the kick but did not increase the score. From the kick out R. Whisker and Aitken make another attempt to score, but the former player in trying to get hold of the leather knocked it on and a scrum was formed. The visitors, with Shannon, Farquharson and Gray most prominent, relieved their goal line for a while. Dyer here got possession and made a splendid but unsucceasful attempt to pot a goal, and shortly afterwards Parr had a good chance to make an attempt to pot, but hesitated and the opposing forwards were on him. Play was in midfield when half time was called. In the second spell Roache returned the kick off to the visitora's 25, where play commenced iv earnest, with Dyer, R. Whisker, Terry and the Robinsons to the front. Dyer eventually crossed the line, scoring a try. Strachan took the kick and placed a goal. From the kick off play centred in midfield for a whil* from whence the visitors took play to Feilding's 25, where Blair got possession and made a good run, but instead of having a shot at goal he passed to MftSOn. Joe Robinson was handy and A score was prevented. The game was now very hot, Wanganui trying hard to ■core, but Strachan removed the scene of operations by a long kick to touch. Passing rushes amongst the Feilding men were now the order of the dav and the visitors were again on the defensive when Parr made an unsuccessful attempt to kick a goal. McDonald relieved his side by a good run along the touch line, but R. Whisker and Dyer were too fast for him. IJdy, Jack and Joe Robinson and Parr made things a bit interesting, but Blair relieved his side at the critical moment by a good kick. Play was all over the field for some minutes and when time was called the scene of operations was in midfield, leaving Feilding to win by seven points to nil. The game was very friendly throughout and the Feilding team played the better. The Feilding boys all worked hard. Roache, at full back, was safe, his long kicks gaining much ground, but at times he was inclined to let his opponents get too close before he took his kick. At three-quarter, Jack Robinson played well, as also did his brother Joe, whese long kicks were noticeable ; the brothers played well together and did a lot of passing, but Joe hesitates too much when dodging. Parr made some good dodgy rnns but he should pass more. Udy played at his best at wing half, and he kicked and passed more than usual. Dyer makes a good hah* and is always there. Strachan was in his old place and his smart play showed that he should have played all through the season. Amongst the forwards, R. Whisker wasalways to the front, with Terry and Aitken handy, the latter dribbling well. Terry has much improved in collaring and does not kick so hard as he used to. The Wanganui team came down two men short, and Bellve and Shannon acted as substitutes. Mason and McDonald, the wing three-quarters, were not fed enough by the halves and hadn't much to do. Blair, the centre three-quarter went in search of work and made some good runs. Shannon was as active as ever at half, but he runs too much in the thick of the fight and doesn't pass enough. Tilley's smart kicks were very useful. Farquharson was best amongst the forwards, with Gray, the veteran captain, to assist him . There was a good deal of passing on both sides, especially by Feilding, but at times it was wild. Messrs Rowley and Keen acted as line umpires and Mr Saywell as referee.
