Alexander, solicitor, was held this morning, creditors representing about £'30,000 being present. I'he report presented hy the accountant appointed to investigate the deceased's affairs showed that the system of honkkeeping practised by M r Alexander was most peculiar and unrcliahie. A rather serious stabbing affray took place at a dance held at Middlemarsh last nignt. Two men named George McGarr and Samuel Callon had a quarrel, when the former slabbed Callon in four dif« ferent places. McGarr has been arrested and remanded to Dunedin. Callon lies in a critical state, and will be brought to the Dunedin Hospital. Invkbcaboill, July 13. A five year-old daughter of Mr John McClymont, of South Invercargill, was accidentally burned to death to-day. In the absence of her mother a burning stick fell from the fireplace, igniting the child's clothes. Mrs McClymont seized a watervessel to extinguish the flames, but fell, breaking the jug. -She then ran acjpss the street to her grandmother's home, but before the fire was put out the little one was so severely burned that she died a few hours afterwards. Blenheim, July 13. At the Supreme Court to day, Geo. A. Dowsing was charged with criminally libelling W. S. Staite in a Marlborough paper. The case lasted the whole of the afternoon. The jury were locked up for the night.
