Birmingham Notes

[from our own correspondent.] The first anniversary of the Sunday School in connection with the Birmingham Wesleyan Church, was held on Sunday. Mr Watkm, of Peilding, conducted the morning, afternoon, and evening services. The attendance was small owing to the rough weather prevailing for the last few days. The collections at the services totalled to the respectable sum of Ll 5s lOd. Mr Anyon wants it to reach Ll 10s, so as to free the school from debt, who will send in the 4s 2d ? Miss Gould, of Feilding, sang several pieces of music in a very feeling manner. Miss A. Lowes presided at the piano. The singing by the scholars was very nicely rendered showing how when children are instructed in vocal music, they are euabled to afford pleasure to others and assist at such gatherings as these, and other kinds of meetings. If Mr Birks could afford to giye some of his time in teaching singing to the young people of this district, he would be conferring a great boon on them, which would be highly appreciated. As he is well gifted he ought to get some good talent out of the choir or class. An accident happened here which at first looked serious. A lad in the employ of Mr Anyon was sitting with his hand rosting on a table, when another lad drew a knife across the back of the hand. The blood flowed frooly and at first Mr Anyon thought the services of a surgoou would be required, but Mr Guy did ull that was necessary and the injured lad is little the worse, bar from the loss of blood. ______»_____
