Birmingham Notes

[FROM OUB OWN CORBESPONDENT.I The candidates for Parliamentary Houses are very busy here preparing the road for giving addresses &c. " The candidate who will reduce the taxes and raise all our salaries will be the one for us— it seems at present to be a case of " tweedledum and tweedledee ! ; : House building is making rapid strides here, and by the quantity of timber to be seen on many sections we shall soon have a large increase of Birminghamites.; I have been often amused to see houses erected on woodpiles or blocks, when there are large quantities of good gravel on the sections handy for use, only want--ing some lime or Portland cement to be mixed with it, proportions about 6 of gravel to 1 of cement makes a first class composition and by using concrete you have a foundation that will outlast the: superstructure. Sorry to say that many of the children are ill with diphtheria, and it is a question with the school committee if the school shall be closed for a time. As Mr Anyon has, to the great pleasure of his numerous friends, completely recovered from his late indisposition and has once more resumed preaching &c, it is to be hoped that there will be a large attendance of children at the Wesleyan Church on Sunday next as it the anniversary of the Sunday school in which Mr Anyon is greatly interestflL There was aWery good attendance on Wednesday evening's meeting x>f the Ifrwitea Literary Association, the first entertainment will be on Saturday 18th when a good programme will be presented.
