Correspondence
DIPHTHERIA.TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,— Can anyone explain why this disease is so prevalent in the couutry districts while our town is practically free from it ? Within a radius of six miles immediately beyond the borough boundaries, with an infant population of say 500, there have been fifteen will defined cases, as against one or perhaps two in the borough, where the children number about the same. It must also be taken into consideration that in the latter case circumstances are supposed, to be more favourable to its development, the childreu meeting more frequently, and want of drainage, a source of danger. The statement attributed to a medical man that there has been nonsuch disease in, the district is ridiculous m the face of expert evidence, and microscopic analysis. . I am, etc., Student.
