LOWES & IORN'S STOCK REPORT. Mes rs Lowes and Iron's report under date Masterton, 20th June, as follows : — At our sale yesterday there was the usual large attendance, but we regret being unable to report the usual competitive life on the part of buyers. A much larger quantity of stock came forward than was advertised and with very few exceptions the sheep were of a fair to good quality. We regret to state that breeding ewes of all classes have most decidedly receded in price, and inferior classes of wethers are sharing the same fate, but not to the same extent. First class sheep are still bringing good values, bat disappointment is experienced in the fact that there is not the continuous rise which characterised the sale this time last year. The reason ascribed is the failure in the turnip crops. The following are the prices realised. Fat ewes, 12s ; forward wethers 12s 6d ; ordinary store wethers, lls 4d to lls 6d ; first cross stores 10s Id to 10s 3s ; merino wethers, 5s 6d ; old breeding ewes, 6s Id to 6s 2d ; old crocks, 4s 3d ; lambs ordinary to fair quality, 6s lid to 8s 3d ; inferior, 3s 4d to 4s 6d ; for a pen of first class lambs bred by Mr John Hessy, we got 12s 2a. Cattle sold well — Light beef bullocks, £5 ss; fat cows medium, 80s to 87s dd; heifers, 70s to 80s ; young heifers, 60s to 67s 6d ; young steers, 18-months, 51s to 58s ; 3-year-old steers, 77s ; calves, 18s to ', 30s ; dairy cows, 70s to 100s. Small pigs a great drug. Horses ditto old draughts, ' £7 ; Small hacks offered but failed to find purchasers. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Go. ; report that at their Palmerston sale on Thursday the entry of stock all round , was small. For cattle fair rates ruled, ( but sheep were dull of sale throughout. j Cattle. — Two and a half to three year ( old steers made £4 2s 6d ; small weaners, , 23s ; weaners and yearlings, 88s 6d ; cows coming to profit, £<L to £4 ss. , Sheep. — Two, four, and six tooth ewes, | lls 6d; others, 6s lOd to 10s; woolly j iambs, 7s to 8s ; wethers unsold.
