LAn PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Weliington, This Day. A serious assault took place in Tory street last night. Two bootmakers, J. S. Welch and Thomas Bransgrove had an altercation oyer a trade matter. As T. Bransgrove was leaving the former's house he felled him to the ground, the fall causing a severe fracture of the skull and hemorrhage on the brain. Welch was taken to the hospital where it was thought he would die during the night, but he is shghtlj better this morning. Later. Bransgrove was remanded for a week. Welch is not likely to recover. As far as the police ascertained the latter brought the trouble on himself by going to Bransgrove, and abusing him, and challenging to fight him.
