Produce Markets

* The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the produce markets for the week, Wednesday, Ist June, as follows : — Wool — Until the next series opens in London on the 14th inst., there will be nothing of importance to chronicle regarding this staple. Sheepskins— Considerable quantities of both green and dry skins have been submitted during the week, every line being taken up by the trade at full market value. We quote :— Green crossbreds, medium to heavy, 3s lOd to 4s 8d ; dry skins, 4d to 5d per lb. Tallow and Fat— We are advised by our London manager that the market there shows a weaker tendency, with a decline in prices of 3d per lb. Locally there is a good demand, late rates being maintained without difficulty, vizInferior to good, 16s to 19s ; rough fat, 12s to 13s per cwt. Hides — Our usual weekly supplies were quitted at late rates. Hemp.— There has been somewhat more enquiry during |tbe week for good quality, but prices offered by operators preclude business, owners preferring to hold meantime rather than accept current quotations. Frozen Meat.— -Our London office cables as follows : — The mutton and lamb markets are quiet. Wellington and Canterbury mutton Jis worth respectively 4d and 4fd per lb. Canterbury lamb is worth sfd per lb. The beef market is dull, and quotations nominal. The market is overstocked with American beef.
