Ashurst Notes

[FROM OUR OVN CORRESPONDENT.! The unexpected news of the death of our late member has concerned us very much. Our district has before now shown forcibly at election, and other times, that it appreciated him as a good public man, and now can, with truth, quote the words of King Louis when he heard of the death of his Prime Minister, Bichelieu, " There is a great politician gone." His last speech at Feilding has gone far and wide, and will appeal to the country although the speaker is no more. We have many remembrances of the late Mr ftl acarthur at Ashurst. Mr Warne, of the Victoria mill, was in Wellington when he heard the sad news. He telegraphed up that his mill was not to be worked on the day of the funeral, which piece of grace on his part we silently took note of.
