Feilding Borough Council
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday last : — Present — His Worship the Mayor, (Mr W. G. Haybittle), Crs Chamberlain, Goodbehere, Carthew, Gould, Lethbridge, S. J. Thompson, and Sandilands. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk of Works reported the completion of the footpath opposite sections 75 and 76, Manchester street, at a cost of £32 18s. The scrub on the Kimbolton road cut down. The successful tenderer for the formation of Railway line road haying failed to take up the contract the work was given to the next tenderer, He would recommend the employment of more labour in order to have the drains cleared out. The Finance Committee recommended for payment of accounts the sum of £75 13s 9d. Correspondence waa received and dealt with in the following resolutions : Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr S. J. Thompson, That the name of Mary Ann Gould be placed on the Burgess roll in the place of John Gould. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr S. J. Thompson, That the report of the Finance Committee be received and adopted. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Soodbehere. seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That an amount sufficient to meet liabilities in connection with Charitable Aid be transferred from general account to Charitable Aid account.—Carried. Proposed by Cr S. J. Thompson, seconded by Cr Carfchew, That the matter of the culvert asked for by Mr T. E. Chamberlain be referred to the Public Works Committee with power lo act should they deem it urgent. — Negatived. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That the motion of Cr S. J. Thompson now before the Council in reference to the application of Mr T. E. Chamberlain be amended by striking out all the words thereby after the word " Committee " and substituting the words and report to next meeting of this Council. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Carthew, That a Borough Bye-law be made providing that all plans for the erection of buildings within the Borough be submitted to the Council for approval, and that a committee be appointed to draw up the same, to be submitted to the Council at the next ordinary meeting. Cr Gould, made reference to the existence of unsightly buildings in the pro* Lament parts of the town, and thought it was time to take steps to prevent any others being erected. Crs Goodbehere, and Sandilands, concurred in the object of the resolution, but thought it was desirable that the whole of the Bye-laws should be revised. On the understanding that a resolution to this effect would be proposed at the next meeting the motion was withdrawn. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Carfchew, That the report of Clerk of Works be adopted. — Carrried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Goodbehere, That the attention of the Railway Commissioners, and the Directors of the Manawatu Railway Company be called to the necessity of connecting the trains of the Wellington Manawatu Railway Company which now arrives in Palmerston at 7.40 p.m., and the Government train which leaves at 5.30 p.m., and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the following Bodies, and their co-operation solicited. Manchester Road Board, Kiwitea Road Board, Halcombe Town Board, Bulls Town Board, Rangitikei County Council, Marton Borough Council, Turakina Town Board, Wanganui Borough Council. — Carried. Proposed by Gr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That a general rate of one shilling and a Library rate of one penny in the £ on the rateable value of all rateable property within the Borough of Feilding for the financial year ending 31st March 1892, be hereby made such rates to be payable in one sum on the 19 th day of May inst. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Goodbebere, seconded by Cr Sandilands, That the Public Works Committee be requested to inspect Gillets Line, and report upon the adyisableness of opening the road for horse traffic so to connect Pharazyn street and Makino road. — Carried. Proposed by S. J. Thompson, seconded by Cr Sandilands, That the matter of the lamp asked for by certain ratepayers, for junction of Derby street and Kimbolton road be referred to the Public Works Committee, and that they report as to the necessity of lamps in other parts of the town which require lamps as well as the site indicated. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That the erection of Denbigh street bridge be undertaken by this Council as scon as funds are available for the work.— Carried. .. • Proposed by Cr Lethbndge, seconded by Cr Goodbehere. That the balance of interest accrued from sinking fund bo placed in the hands of the Sinking Fund Commissioner for investment.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Sandilands, That the contractors deposit for the Manchester s;ieet dram be returned. — Carried. The Council then adjourned.
