» [from our own correspondent. I The annual meeting of the householders was held here on the 25th in?t., for th« purpose o^ electing a school committee, when the following wore elected :— Messrs Burton, Osborne, Cummerfield, J. Duncan, Mackenzie, Miller, and Nix. Mr Burton was.=elected Chairman for the ensuing term. They are a long time in making a start with the school as, although the timber has been on the ground for some time, there is no sign of the builder vet. The fine weather we have been having has enabled the settlers to push on with a lot of work, iv the shape of sowing grass seed, which has got a very good start on most of the burns, and fencing, of which there has been a lot done this summer. Busk -felliner has commenced again, and in the Coal Creek Block there are several parties starting to fall. Mr R. Earle, surveyor, an old Peildinj? resident, has gone up with a party to start surveying the Umutoi Block for the Special settlements, and will take twelve months if more surveyors are not sent up, so that there is not much prospect of their being able to get any bush down tbis season. There is a party trying to obtain the land joining this Block for another settlement, and I believe it is to be out shortly, as it is very nearly ready for sale. Several people have been up to look at the sections. It would be a good thing for a lot of the people if the Engineer of the Kiwitea Road Board would have some rata trees removed from the road by Malcolms, which have been burnt down by the bush fires and fallen across the road, and you cannot get along with a horse. There will be lot of traffic along there when the Block is opened, as it is on both sides of the river. _ | _ —
