The Manchester Riflea are reminded of the parade to-night. There are two elegibte recruits to be proposed for election. Captain Hall, of the Palmerston North Bides has passed a successful examination. A ball given by the 53rd Battalion at Sherbrooke, near Quebec, had an interesting incident associated with it. Lieut. Shea, aged 98 years, a Waterloo veteran, opened the dancing dressed in full-dress uniform and wearing his Waterloo medals. Shortly after the arrest of Edward Holden, formerly quartermaster in the Eoyal Engineers, charged with attempting to learn secrets regarding the British defences at Gibraltar, it was discovered j that be had sold France full particulars and plans of all the defences at Malta. Military examiner : " What must a man be to be buried with military honors ? " Recruit ; " Dead."
