The County Council Conference passed a motion affirming the necessity for rating Native and Crown Lands, and appointed a committee to prepare a report on the subject. A motion suggesting that the administration of Charitable Aid should be vested in County Councils was also passed. Particulars are to hand of the tragedy at Helen Bay. Butler has been arrested. He admitted his guilt to Constable Moore, stating he had quarrelled with Kattan, his mate, yesterday morning about money matters, when Kattan, drew a knife and stabbed him in three different places on the chest, when Butler drew a revolver and shot Kattan dead.
