Wellington Land Board

♦ The monthly meeting of the Land Board was held on Thursday last. Present — Messrs J. H. Baker (Commissioner), W. A. Fitzherbert, W. W. McCardle, and T. W. Fisher. The following applications to obtain titles were approved: — A. 0. Jensen, Pohangina ; J. W. Levin, Ongo ; F. C. Smith, P. Nesdale, Apiti; A. Buff, Bunnythorpe. Applications to capitalise were approved as follows : — C. Max Baur, Apiti; S. Ewing, Apiti; F. McAnulty, Mangaone. The following applications to transfer were approved : — E. Jones, to A. W. H. Wicks, R. Matheson (deceased) to J. J. Bryce, J. J. Peopel to J. McNair, Roger and Parker to H. Dickin, C. Johnson to W. H. Nixon, P. M. Reynolds (deceased) to W. Twentyman, J. Wilkie to A. "Wilkie. The following applications to transfer were not approved, as the conditions of the Act had not been complied with : — M. Walsh, Mangaone ; D. Jone3, Apiti ; J. T. Martin, Mangaone. The registration of Mr L. Stansbury as substitute for Mr J. Reid on Sections 14 and 16, Block, IV., Ongo, was approved. The Commissioner submitted a letter received from Messrs Travers and Wilford, claiming on behalf of Mr J. Oldham that his application for land in the Oroua Coal Creek North Block, on the 23rd inst., should receive priority over other applications, and asking that a special case be stated for the opinion of a judge of the Supreme Court. Mr Travers attended and addressed the Board on the subject. The Board decided that they could not entertain Mr J. Oldham's application to be considered the first applicant for the land he applied for, as they could not determine whether he was the first applicant of the many who tendered their applications to the Commissioner on his . opening the door to receive them on the morning of the 23rd March. It was decided to accept Mr R. Mayhew's application for Section 27, West Waitapu although it was not made on a village, settlement form in the first instance. The Commissioner laid on the table a schedule of selectors in arrear with their improvements, and it was resolved to declare Mr J. Tennent's interest in Section 32, Block IV., Ongo, be cancelled, and take., the usual action in other cases. The Board then adjourned.
