The Manchester Rifles paraded on Thursday night in their new Kharkee uniforms, and the effective appearance of the men was observable. After the corps had been inspected Lieut. Kirton presented acting Captain Bailey who has recently been elected. Captain Bailey made a short speech in which he stated he would do his level best to promote the interests of the corps. At the conclusion of his address three hearty cheers were given for the new officer. The corps was afterwards drilled in manual and firing exercises by Lieut. Bray, and in the bayonet exercise by Sergt. Aahworth. The rules for competitive prize firing drawn up by the Shooting Committee were read and adopted. Any young men desiring to enlist iv the Manchester Rifles are requested to send in their names at once, so tlint, if elected, no delay may be experienced in obtaining their uniforms. T. V.
